CONCRETE & ASPHALT

Concrete is essential for buildings, roads, and bridges, but its reliance on cement makes it a major climate villain, contributing 6-8% of global CO₂ emissions. Asphalt, widely used in road construction, is durable but depends on bitumen, a byproduct of fossil fuel refining, raising environmental concerns.

2D fab aims to tackle these issues – using graphene-enhanced products.

By adding graphene-enhanced products you can sufficiently improve the durability of structural concrete. It also has the potential to drastically reduce the amount of CO₂ the concrete industry is emitting, as our products would make it possible to reduce the amount of Portland cement currently used in in concrete.

Advantages with graphene-enhanced products in cement include:

  • Less prone to cracking
  • Reduced water absorption
  • More environmentally friendly
  • Increased tensile, flexural and compression strength

Case Description

STRONGER INFRASTRUCTURE, LONGER LIFESPAN

Concrete center railings reinforced with nanotechnology are paving the way for more sustainable infrastructure in Sundsvall. Along Skolhusallén, old railings have been replaced with upgraded versions designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and reduce maintenance needs.

These enhanced railings offer:

  • Improved frost resistance
  • Greater durability, extending lifespan
  • A more climate-smart solution for road infrastructure

PRODUCTS

The 2Dx® CO-NXT product line consists of specially developed aqueous suspensions made from 2Dx® material, designed for cementitious binders. By reducing stress from chemical and drying shrinkage, 2DX® CO-NXT reinforces the binder material at the nanoscale, inhibiting crack formation and propagation to boost overall strength.
